Rasbora, Danio and Barb Care Guides
Rasboras, danios and barbs are active schooling fish from Asia. Many are hardy and good for beginners, but the group also includes fish that look small in the store and grow large, like bala sharks and tinfoil barbs. Match the schooling size, tank length and fin-nipping habits of each species to your tank.
Quick rules of thumb
- Keep schooling species in groups of six or more.
- Use a tight lid for danios and other jumpers.
- Plan for adult size before buying sharks and tinfoil barbs.
