Badis and Dario species are tiny, intensely colored freshwater predators that hunt live prey rather than grazing on flake food. They need a planted nano tank, a steady culture of small live or frozen foods, and enough cover and territory to keep males from fighting.
Quick rules of thumb
- Stock live or frozen micro-foods before buying; most refuse dry flake and pellets.
- Give each male a plant- or wood-marked territory; two males rarely tolerate each other in a small tank.
- Choose calm, slow tankmates; a shy micropredator loses out to fast fish at feeding time.
