The care facts embed adds a small block of species care facts (size, water, minimum tank, temperament, difficulty) to a fish, shrimp or plant product page with one snippet. It is free for any aquarium store or blog. Each block links back to the full guide on Freshwater Guides, and you keep the credit line.

Live demo

By species name:

Tank-Raised Java Fern on Wood - Medium

Betta Fish Food Pellets 1 oz

A food product: the embed correctly shows nothing.

Add it to any page

Put the container where you want the block, and load the script once on the page:

<div data-fwg-care="neon-tetra"></div>
<script src="https://freshwaterguides.com/embed/care.js" defer></script>

Use a guide's slug (the end of its care guide URL) or its exact name, such as data-fwg-care="Neon Tetra".

Shopify: match from the product title

In the product template or a custom Liquid block, let the embed read the product title. It only shows when the title clearly names one of our species:

<div data-fwg-care="auto" data-name="{{ product.title | escape }}"></div>
<script src="https://freshwaterguides.com/embed/care.js" defer></script>

BigCommerce: Script Manager, product pages

Add a footer script in Script Manager, limited to product pages. Test on one product first, because theme selectors vary:

<script>
document.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded', function () {
  var t = document.querySelector('.productView-title'); if (!t) return;
  var d = document.createElement('div');
  d.setAttribute('data-fwg-care', 'auto');
  d.setAttribute('data-title', '.productView-title');
  (t.closest('.productView') || document.querySelector('main')).appendChild(d);
  var s = document.createElement('script');
  s.src = 'https://freshwaterguides.com/embed/care.js'; document.body.appendChild(s);
});
</script>

How the matching works

  • It is deliberately strict. A title like "Neon Tetra", "Tank-Raised Neon Tetra (1 in)" or "Java Fern on Wood" matches. Food, medication, kits, equipment and anything with unexpected extra words show nothing, so a care block never lands on the wrong product.
  • If a species is not in the catalog yet, the block stays hidden. We add species on request.
  • Style it with CSS: everything lives under the .fwg-care class.

Terms

Free to use on aquarium retail and hobby sites. Keep the credit line and the link back. Care facts are general guidance for common species, not a guarantee for any individual animal, so keep your own livestock notes (acclimation, quarantine, source) on the page too.

Want printed labels too? The care label printer turns the same data into tank labels with QR codes.
